Mr. Wang grew up in a family of instrument makers. The family has dedicated her four generations to the pursuit of perfectly combining music with the instrument-making techniques.

Mr. Wang Zhiming began to learn violin playing in his childhood under the instructions of two renowned Chinese violin players, Mr. Liu Jinlong and Mr. Fan Shengkuan. This laid a solid foundation for his entering the former China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. In 1974, when only 14 years old, he started to learn violin making skills from his father. Later on, he entered Beijing Violins Factory and concentrated for 6 years on the studying of violin making under the direction of Mr. Dai Hongxiang, a famous violin making master in China. He has been to Cremona Italy many times exchanging violin making skills with the local masters, and ever got the pleasure of receiving the instructions from the world renowned master Mr. G. B. Morassi. In 1988, the violin made by Mr. Wang Zhiming himself was awarded the winning prize in the International Competition in Violin Making organized in Cremona Italy, the violin-making hometown of the world. In 2003, Mr. Wang acquired the permanent resident right in the USA as an outstanding artist.

Mr. Wang Zhiming is now the chief, lifelong technician for stringed instrument tuning, maintenance, and repair for China Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also the vice-chairman, standing director of Violin Making Masters’ Branch under China Musical Instruments Association.
